A Tuolumne Trip

Go back to The Sierras.

Daff Dome

Summit of Daff Dome.

In September of 2006, we flew out for a couple days to Tuolumne Meadows. I recall a few things…like screwing up (forgot the topo in car) the start of West Crack on Daff, swapping leads with Shirley on both routes, and being crowded off the Regular Route on Fairview (came back a month or so later and did that one). In the end, we climbed West Crack (5.9) on Daff Dome and the West Pillar Direct (5.10-) on Eichorn Pinnacle. Both nice routes though I think we liked the former better. Is all I recall…

Daff Dome

I have never seen such a deposit on granite before - note the darker tan surfaces that seem to glisten. They have a texture of teflon IMHO - pretty incredible stuff. Backside (east) of Daff Dome (Sept. 2, 2006).
