In the morning, more thunderstorms. Just as the skies seemed to be clearing, we’d start hiking only to be turned back by another thunderstorm near the base of the route. Finally, we decided to just sit things out in the guesthouse. Shirley even got a hands-on lesson in making Berber bread from Abdul’s Mom. By early afternoon, we were back at the base of the cliff and looking for the correct start to the Tiwira route, a 6-pitch 6a+ established by Abdul and friends. The climbing was fun with good bolting and mostly solid rock. The views of the verdant, palm-filled valley below surrounded by an otherwise brown and dry landscape were quite unique. In the evening, we got a tour of the kasbah in the nearby village from Adbul’s friend Hadi all while dodging more thunderstorms.
