Stogaj

Given the shaky forecast for the coming days, we went for our second Croatia climbing objective on day three: tower of Stogaj on the Island of Pag. A 90-minute drive took us to an out of the way parking area. A 20-minute hike through some interesting moonscape (rocks, little to no vegetation, and blue bays of the Adriatic) brought us to the base of the tower. We chose the 2-pitch Stigma route: a tightly bolted, 5b; kind of pumpy though especially if you’re not doing steep laps on your gym’s plastic. The rock itself is quite unique: an under evolved version of limestone, very much looking like a coral reef; but totally solid. We topped out just as the marine layer burnt off and were quickly baking on the summit. We rounded out the day by enjoying the local beaches (best beaches and water of the trip).
