Roadtrip time.
A new fed holiday presented an opportunity for a quick family road trip down to northern California. We had fond memories of our weeklong, remote working stint in Auburn from two years prior and so were looking to recreate some of the magic with a bit of Lovers Leap climbing and ample lake and river swimming. Climbing-wise, we were looking for quick little morning adventures that would be short enough to keep Benny and (especially) Davey from acting out when left at the base. We climbed
It’s Better With Bacon on the Hogsback (4 pitch, 5.8; pretty OK);
Scheister on Sugarloaf (3 pitch, 5.7; cool little granite formation and really classic climbing); and
Haystack on the East Wall of The Leap (3 pitch, 5.8; very fun). We saw absolutely no one on the first two outings and only one additional party on some other East Wall line. We did a shitload of swimming though Lake Tahoe was a bit too chilly.
