We try to add on some Indonesia time to east Asia or Australia climbing trips; the one country we keep going back to despite a general lack of established climbing. Choosing which island to visit is always a fun challenge as the archipelago country includes a plethora of distinct and fascinating things to see and to experience. This trip was supposed to include some family time but that part unfortunately did not work out. In the end, it was just the two of us “touristing” and eating our way across South and Central Sulawesi.

The goal for this trip was to see the very unique funerary customs of the people of Tana Toraja in the highlands of Central Sulawesi, one of Indonesia’s principal islands.
