St. Catherine Monastery.
The following day, we spent the morning checking out the famous St. Catherine’s Monastery, a 15 minute walk from the camp. This is an Eastern Orthodox institution dating back to the mid-500s and is the tourist magnet of the area. We were in the Red Sea (Gulf of Aqaba) town of Dahab later in the afternoon. We bummed around the touristy town and enjoyed a sea food dinner with Misha and his wife, Anna, that evening; a much appreciated respite from the chicken & rice fare.

Dahab.
Our one full day in Dahab was to be a rest day filled with water activities. Somehow sitting there on the beach and sipping Bloody Marys, with some local beer chasers and even a touch of Egyptian whiskey, the day got away from us and we hardly did anything. Oh well. We did pick up a couple (plastic) bottles of Egyptian rum recommended to us by Misha one of which would accompany us into the desert while the other one took a longer trip back to the US.
