Go back to Ecuador.
Go back to Rainy Simiatug.
Cerro Tacaxa.
That evening we arrived at the edge of the Quilotoa Lake (a crater lake) where we spent the night in another hostel. The goal was to try to eke out one more climb on one of the formations nearby. More drizzly weather in the morning and so we did some exploring of the upper crater. Finally, in the late morning, we drove 30 minutes to the Cerro Tacaxa where we wanted to give a route called
Top Ten a go. Steep uphill approach in more intermittent drizzle and the old game of “should we go for it or not” at the base. Finally, though it was still spitting on us, we started climbing. Some three pitches up, I thought I had fucked up the route finding and so we bailed – not a hard decision given the moist weather.
