Meroe

Go back to Sudan.
Go back to Port Sudan – Part Two.

Meroe

Meroe Pyramids.

In the morning, Osman picked us up for a four-hour drive north towards Meroe. Along the way, we stopped in the village of Shendi to have some home brewed coffee with a family that Osman knew. We reached the pyramids before sunset and were there for the magic hour. Given that it was New Years Eve, we were not alone; there were a few dozen people including a handful of foreigners. Oh well, still a pretty special experience even if tainted by humannity. We spent the night camped out just beneath the pyramids and headed back to Khartoum early in the morning.
