Go back to Mauritania.
Go back to Tanouchert Oasis To Chinguetti.
Terjit Oasis.
On our final, full day in Mauritania, we drove to another oasis called Terjit. This one is like a slice of Eden in the middle of the desert: a narrow canyon shaded by dense vegetation made possible by a natural spring. We hung out enjoying the greenery and the pleasant temperatures.
We then drove a couple of hours (again, mostly off piste across the desert) to the Azouega Dune, reportedly the tallest such formation in Mauritania. Shirley and I hiked up the ~70 meter tall dune while Mohammad and Deyah set up camp. This was the one place where we saw the largest concentration of tourists during our trip; place was positively crawling with Euros.
