We arrived in Sorong on Papua’s mainland in the early morning. After meeting Freddy, we headed for the marina where we had prearranged a boat to take us to the homestay we had booked in Raja Ampat; specifically on the tiny isle of Kri. We did a bit of snorkeling right in front of the homestay (saw a banded, 1.5m long sea krait from about 3 meters away – awesome!) and called it a day.
Heavy rain greeted us in the morning. We canceled our planned, longer trip and instead did a quick snorkeling outing to the marina right outside the village of Sauwandarek on the nearby Mansuar Island. Its reputation as a turtle hotspot was indeed confirmed.
