Go back to Brazil II.
Go back to Pedra Riscada.
We bid farewell to Eddie the night before and got up well pre-dawn to start our 13 hour drive northeast towards the final destination of the trip: Itatim in the state of Bahia. The first third of the drive went smoothly but somewhere after crossing into Bahia we hit what I can only call a traffic jam from hell. Drive 200 yards, stop for 20 minutes. Rinse and repeat ad nauseam. Igor did a nice job passing the endless line of tractor trailers in the left lane but even with that the drive too us nearly 20 hours. We arrived at the climbers “camp” in Itatim well after midnight.
We got our first views of the formations in the morning. Holy shit, absolutely amazing. Especially the wild looking Morro da Toca. Given our late arrival the night before, the morning featured a less than alpine start. We picked a 4 pitch line called O Pagador de Promessas (Brazilian V) on a formation called Ponta Aguda. Nice position and climbing with a mix of some bolts and trad gear. Our friends climbed the next door line called Shaolin do Serato and together we spent some time on the summit taking in the views and chilling.
That evening we enjoyed a night out on the town (Itatim). A fun little place with everything a climber would need.
