There we would spend the remaining two days having a family reunion with Shirley’s Mom, sister, brother, and sister-in-law plus their kids. The highlights of those two days were of course the family time (short enough to be free of the usual family downsides such as bickering), meeting Stephane for some beers (unfortunately we ran out of time to meet David), and the food (especially the fruits). I’m largely biased against large cities – spending time in most feels wasteful to me – and Singapore was no different. Glass and steel – high tech and low charm. Bad beer with a worse price. Two surveillance cameras per citizen and machine gun sporting soldiers at the airport. On the upside, excellent public transportation made our lives easier especially with such a large group of people and a nice if slightly sterile Chinatown.
