Shirley on the hike in to Physical Graffiti on the Riding Hood Wall. Cannibal Crag is the large boulder (with the leftward slanting crack) on the left side of the photo; the red hills also on the left are Calico Hills (November 30, 2002).
I don’t know how we found it, but a year after we started climbing we ended up in Red Rocks over a 4-day Thanksgiving Weekend in 2002. I recall it being a road trip. I recall doing
Cat In The Hat and
Physical Graffiti. Both 5.6 and both nice lines and proud achievements for us at that time! I also remember being stuck behind a few parties on
Cat In The Hat and rapping in the dark (first time of course 🙂 ). Blondie was there as well of course.

Cat In The Hat
Hiking towards Mescalito from the trail head (Thanksgiving 2002).
Leading pitch 1 of Cat in the Hat. Notice the deep shade provided by the surrounding canyon walls (Thanksgiving 2002).
Shirley chilling on a nice balcony about 2/3 of the way up pitch 1 of Cat in the Hat. Don't stop here (despite the nice ledge and double bolts) - pitch 1 continues until you reach spacious ledges about 50 feet above where this picture was taken.

Looking down at the 'spacious ledges' below from the 5.5 chimney on pitch 2 of Cat in the Hat (Thanksgiving 2002).

The beautiful 5.6 crack of the third pitch of Cat in the Hat. Note how the route traverses below the small roof before catching another nice crack on the left (Thanksgiving 2002).

Looking up at the beautiful crack on pitch 5 of Cat in the Hat from the belay ledge. The 5.6+ section is beyond the horizon where the steepness eases but the crack runs out - small hand holds, good smearing (Thanksgiving 2002).
Looking down from about 2/3 of the way up pitch 5 of Cat in the Hat at the wonderful exposure below. The small white helmet below is Shirley belaying me (Thanksgiving 2002).

Shirley at the beginning of the scramble portion of the approach to Physical Graffiti. Riding Hood Wall is the large face at top center of photo. First pitch of Physical Graffiti is the faint diagonal crack in the lower half of that face; pitch two picks up the main vertical crack (November 30, 2002).
Riding Hood Wall with Physical Graffiti indicated by the dashed red line and Over the Hill to Grandmother's House shown in dashed green line (pitch one). The two routes share a common second pitch. Pitch one of Physical Graffiti ends where the route does the rightward traverse (November 30, 2002).
