Go back to Sudan.
Go back to Khartoum – First Day.
Roasting coffee.
The following day, Ghazi (Osman’s partner) picked us up from the hotel early in the morning for a daylong eastward drive to Kassala. We’ve done some longish drives in other African countries and this one qualified as pretty exciting. We passed the site of a fresh accident which included bloody human remains crushed in half by a rolled pick up. Things got even more lively as the sun went down an hour before Kassala and it became abundantly clear to us why the guidebook discourages night driving in Sudan: no markings of any kind on the road and vehicle lights are optional. In Kassala, along with Ghazi we stayed in a rented apartment close to the Taka Mountains.
