South Bruny Island

Court Island.

More unsettled weather the following day and a trip to South Bruny Island, a 15 minute ferry ride from Tasmania. We took the rack along as the guidebook promised some quality single pitch crack climbing above the sea. A scenic approach on the southern tip of the island gave way to an overgrown gully and a pretty horrendous bushwhack down…more like vertical bush diving into darkness. The thoughts of tiger snakes would not leave us as we were plunging through blinding undergrowth down the gully. After a 100 meters of this nightmare we decided that no single pitch climbing was worth this and we gave up and headed for some well reputed Bruny Island oysters instead.

The approach seemed like too much work for single pitch cragging and so we bailed on the idea of climbing on Bruny (Dec. 2014).
