Summary

Shirley leading Hallowed Ground (5.8+/5.9).

June 1st in 2008 saw us doing a touch of basalt cragging at The Bend cliff in Tieton. Shirley led Cruel Harvest and Hallowed Ground, both nice and both rated 5.8+/5.9 (depending on the guidebook referenced). I led The Tiers (5.9) and Salmon Song (5.10a) – two cracks that overcome the same roof on two opposite sides of the same column. Very enjoyable. I finished off the day by leading the hard for me Treatment Bound, also 5.10a but felt harder relative to the other lines there of same grade.

Cruel Harvest

Shirley starting the lead of Cruel Harvest line (5.8+/5.9). Quality cracks abound! #1 is Salmon Song (5.10a); #2 indicates The Tiers (5.9); #3 is Treatment Bound (5.10a); #5 is Pure Joy (5.10c); and #6 is Reckoning (5.10b). Early June 2008.

Salmon Song

Starting up the beautiful and fun Salmon Song (5.10a) route at The Bend.

Starting up Salmon Song (5.10a) at Tieton's Bend. Route apparently derives its name from the salmon-colored patch under the roof. Route pulls the left side of the roof after a slabby approach. Right side of roof is The Tiers (5.9), an equally fun route (June 2008).

Treatment Bound

Starting up the difficult Treatment Bound (5.10a) route...harder than the handful of other 5.10's we've tried at The Bend (June 2008).

Leading Treatment Bound (5.10a) which was a lot harder than Salmon Song (another 10a, two cracks over to the left). My neighbor on the right is leading Reckoning (5.10b). June 2008.
